MOSS + BOWIE = VOGUE

Brit icon Kate Moss does Brit icon David Bowie on the brand new January cover of French Vogue, shot by Mert & Marcus. Not the first time this has been done (see below), but we like it all the same.

NIKI & THE DOVE

We are <3 <3 <3ing Swedish electro-poppers Niki & The Dove in the office today. Hints of The Knife + Stevie Nicks + a little bit of Prince. Check out their latest single The Drummer below, and do give their magnificent new EP (pictured above) a spin here.

CONVERSE + GORILLAZ

Oh look, Gorillaz have teamed up with Converse to create a shoe. They've also recorded a new song, ahead of their singles collection album (out later this month), but it's not available to hear yet. So you'll have to make do with the shoe for now.

CHRISTINE SUN KIM

We are <3ing photographer & filmmaker Todd Selby's latest film, in which deaf sound artist Christine Sun Kim explains her aesthetic vision. Gorgeous ting. (via nowness)

STICKS + STONES

This is definitely not a post about Cher Lloyd. It is a post about a fairly cool promotion concept for her new album, whereby a custom-spray-painted billboard located in the heart of East London was created & filmed in this crafty little timelapse video below. (Definitely not about Cher Lloyd).

WONDELREY

Let's have a look at some nice pictures of Lana Del Rey from this month's brand new Wonderland magazine (out now), as shot by the marvellous Aj Numan. Lovely.

LIONESS

Two previously unheard songs recorded by Amy Winehouse premiered on Radio 1 today. We're never too sure about posthumously released material from beloved artists, but this is happening regardless, so let's have a listen & decide whether it's any good.

The tracks are called Like Smoke (which features Nas) and Our Day Will Come, and are both taken from Wino's upcoming LP, Lioness: Hidden Treasures, which will be released on the 5th of December. Listen to Like Smoke here.

There's no denying her voice isn't at its best, and that the rapper's extended input feels like a filler, but the melody is pleasant, and the production more than able. Overall we're not entirely sold; the jury is still out as to whether unreleased material should remain.. unreleased.

THE SOUND OF DRIVE

Check out this insightful video from Supervising Sound Editor Lon Bender, as he talks about his work on director Nicolas Winding Refn's Drive, starring Ryan Gosling. Great stuff.

THE LADY IS A TRAMP

We reckon blue-haired Gaga rather suits the old-time vocals of this collaboration with legend Tony Bennett. The Lady Is A Tramp is taken from the crooner's latest LP, Duets II, which also features a song with Amy Winehouse (which we first told you about here).

MOTHER, BROTHER, LOVER

Jarvis Cocker has a new book of lyrics out this week, entitled Mother, Brother, Lover. To celebrate its release, the Brit folk-pop-rocker made a little short film where he traces his steps back to where it all began: Cocker's secondary school in Sheffield, which he attended in the 1970s, and is coincidentally also where Pulp played their first gig. Ah, bless.

THE LONGEST COCKTAIL PARTY

What do Liam Gallagher, Peep Show writer Jesse Armstrong and filmmaker Michael Winterbottom all have in common?

They're all working on a film adaptation of Richard DiLello's memoir about the life & times of The Beatles between 1967 and 1970, entitled The Longest Cocktail Party.

Gallagher is co-producing alongside Andrew Eaton, and although this motley crue of individuals wouldn't be our first pick to create a Beatles film, we can't deny we're intrigued by the project. Definitely one to keep an eye on.

WILD MAN

Don't say we don't spoil you with exclusives. Here's the brand new Kate Bush single, Wild Man, which comes from her new album, 50 Words for Snow. You heard it here first.

RIHANNA 4 ARMANI

Lovely young popstrelle Rihanna (who was spotted with her oyster card on the tube last night, on the way to her own gig at the O2) has teamed up with Armani for their latest ad campaign.

Shot in New York City by the almighty Steven Klein, they've also conjured up a nifty fashion film of the Noir variety. Very nice.

MARCHING 110

Just about everything sounds better coming from a marching band, as demonstrated below by Ohio University's Marching 110 & their rendition of LMFAO's The Party Rock Anthem. Stick with it.

THE MILLION DOLLAR PIANO

Fans of Elton rejoice, the bitch is back. The British singer opened his new Las Vegas show at Caesars Palace last night, marking the beginning of a new 3-year residency at the infamous US theatre.

John sang hit after hit to a packed audience, before joking with the crowd: "It's great to be back at Caesars Palace, in the 2 and a half years since I was last here, myself and Celine Dion - who also played here - both stopped to have children. Miracles happen, I tell you." Get your tickets for the show here.

LOST BEETHOVEN WORK BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE

Well, this is a nifty old bit of paper to come across: a Beethoven masterpiece that was thought to be lost in its full and original form is to be played for the first time in over 200 years, after it was reconstructed from the composer's original sketches.

The slow movement of Beethoven's String Quartet in G, Opus 18 Number 2 was composed in 1799, but was discarded straight after it was written. A German music scholar who goes by the name of Sieghard Brandenburg unearthed detailed sketches made by the legendary composer as part of a research project back in 1977.

30 years later, Barry Cooper, a music professor at the University of Manchester, has put the original sketches together so that the movement can be heard for the first time since Beethoven's day. Let's have an educated listen.

BODY AND SOUL

In what turned out to be her last ever recorded performance, on what would have been her 28th birthday, here is Amy Winehouse covering the 1930s jazz classic Body and Soul with Tony Bennett.

The session was recorded in March at Abbey Road studios for Bennett's new album, Duets II, which is available here. It's hard to watch this without feeling sad all over again at the loss of such a unique woman.

50 WORDS FOR SNOW

Her last album of re-worked past hits left us a bit underwhelmed (more on that here), so news of brand new material from the one & only Kate Bush is most, most welcome.

50 Words for Snow is the name of the new album (pictured above), it's out on 21 November, and it will feature, as the title suggests, seven new tracks set against a backdrop of falling snow. That's not a lot of songs, but we're reassured that the album is still over 65 minutes long. Cannae wait.

CEREMONIALS

Music fans, here's your first look at Florence and the Machine's cover artwork for new album, Ceremonials. The LP is the follow-up to 2009's hugely successful Lungs, and is out on October 31st. Have a listen at lead single Shake It Out below. Lovely stuff.

INNI

Beloved Icelandic warblers Sigur Ros have a new album out in November, and the campaign has caught our attention. Entitled Inni, the project comprises of a double live album and a 75-minute film of the band's last show before their well-documented "indefinite hiatus" at the end of 2008.

Recorded over 2 nights at London's Alexandra Palace, Inni sees the band at the peak of their success, captured live on film for the first time since the band's creation nearly 12 years ago.

The film was directed by Vincent Morisset and debuted at this year's Venice Film Festival on the 3rd September 2011. Here's a little snippet to whet your appetite. More info here.
