Next month's Cannes Film Festival sees 4 female film-makers lead the way to Palme d'Or glory. British director Lynne Ramsay (pictured below)'s We Need To Talk About Kevin, starring Tilda Swinton & John C. Reilly, is amongst the frontrunners, as is Japan's Naomi Kawase, Australian novelist and film-maker Julia Leigh, and French director Maiwenn Le Besco.
Last year's ceremony was criticised for a shortlist of films entirely dominated by male directors, so it is encouraging to see that the organisers have opened their eyes a bit. Film-making is oddly still a predominantly male-lead profession, yet there is absolutely no reason why more women don't choose it as a vocation.
