After months of delays (financial difficulties at MGM + original director Guillermo del Toro leaving the project + actor's union strike), shooting has finally started on The Hobbit in New Zealand. The 3D prequel to The Lord Of The Rings trilogy will be split into two films to be released in 2012 & 2013, and stars Martin Freeman in the title character, as well as Cate Blanchett & Elijah Wood. Director Peter Jackson is said to be raring to go.
