It's not looking good for John Galliano. His racist rant, which was caught on camera and is basically all over the internet, is no longer just gossip fodder. As the creative head of the Dior brand, his anti-semitic comments reach far beyond the small, elite pool of couture customers he designs for.
The LVMH-owned luxury goods group is a veritable empire (jewellery, cosmetics, perfumes, accessories, menswear, womenswear) that employs thousands of people and sells to hundreds of thousands of people globally.
Queue official statement released this morning by Academyawardwinner & new face of the Miss Dior Cherie fragrance, Natalie Portman: "I am deeply shocked and disgusted by the video of John Galliano’s comments that surfaced today. In light of this video, and as an individual who is proud to be Jewish, I will not be associated with Mr. Galliano in any way." Here's Natalie in the perfume's brand new ad, directed by Sofia Coppola:
It shouldn't come as a surprise that word on the street is Galliano is days away from being dismissed from his role at Dior, who incidentally also own & fund his namesake John Galliano label.
UPDATE: It's official.
