GOOGLE ART PROJECT

Google is bringing its 'street-view'-style photography to 17 of the world's leading art galleries and museums, from the Tate in London to MoMA in New York, allowing users to wander the halls and view the works on display.

You can even inspect a selection of paintings in great detail, made possible with 14bn photography. The high-def technology is currently restricted to just one painting per gallery, but it's likely this will rapidly grow and evolve, and not just within the museum world. Start your tour here.

Lots of people are getting hot under the collar, claiming the project marks the death of galleries, and that the experience could never match seeing the artworks in real life. We think it's an exciting incentive and can't wait to see what else Google will do with it.
