JOHN STEZAKER

Brit artist John Stezaker likes to mess with images. He takes classic movie stills, postcards or  illustrations and makes collages to give them new meaning. By modifying, flipping and slicing separate pictures together to create unique new works, Stezaker explores the subversive force of found imagery. His famous Mask series, for example, merges the profiles of glamorous models with caves and waterfalls, resulting in new images of unusual beauty.

The first major retrospective of his work is on until 18 March at the Whitechapel Gallery, 77-82 Whitechapel High Street E1 7QX. Admission is free.
